The YouthEcho Team
The community of readers and voices make YouthEcho.com great. Out of this community, a handful of individuals have taken on additional responsibilities. Meet them here:
MANAGING EDITOR
JOANNE SOO
Joanne’s editorial career began long before her studies completed. During her 2nd year as an undergraduate in Monash University, she championed and activated the university’s student publication. She currently edits and supervises YouthMalaysia.com’s bi-monthly produced newsletter The Voice. Amongst other things, she was also the Program Manager of the 1st National Youth Entrepreneur Convention, and the Editor of the annual Convention’s flagship magazine, Youth Entrepreneur.
CHANNEL EDITORS
THE STUFF CHANNEL: AHMAD FARIS
Often described as friendly and jovial, Faris is bound for the UK later this year for undergraduate studies. Although he was born in Perak, Faris considers himself to be a true Penangite having been raised on the island. Besides writing and Maths, Faris finds lots of fun in photography, cooking, reading, traveling and casual hangouts with friends. Visit his channel.
THE INSPIRATION CHANNEL: CHEAH KOK HIN
Kok Hin is a Monash University freshman currently in pursuit of a Business degree. He teaches tuition as on a part time basis and lives and breathes the football club Manchester United. He classifies his interests from the affordable ones (futsal and swimming) to the expensive ones (traveling) which he hopes you’ll provide him the moulah for. He aspires to be a UN diplomat, a travel/sport journalist or some random rich dude. (we told you he needs the moulah for it.) Visit his channel.
THE FEMALE CHANNEL: GRACE OON
Grace is a full-blooded KL-ite, and is proud of it. A freelance model and journalist, she loves good bargains, chicken rice, Happy Meals and being kidnapped by going out with her boyfriend. Maintaining writing as her true passion, she aspires to be a renown journalist in the future. Visit her channel.
THE LOVE CHANNEL: TENGKU MIRAFITA
Fondly known as Mia to her friends, Tengku Mirafita is a Monash student currently pursuing her Bachelor of Business and Commerce. When she’s not doing assignments or writing for YouthMalaysia, she looks forward to Picture Day Outs with friends, conversation over food, and cupcakes. She is driven by her hunger for more in life – literally, as well. Visit her channel.
THE ENTERTAINMENT CHANNEL: PUTERI NURUL
Puteri is an undergraduate majoring in Electronics-Computer and Information Engineering in a local international university (no kidding). A self-confessed caffeine addict and chic lit lover, she loves to try anything new. She has participated in various debating and public speaking tournaments and to her, to debate is to ‘argue passionately in a civilized manner’. Being the outspoken (read: talkative) and bubbly person she is, she is involved (on and off) in the production field – she has hosted an English edutainment show called “Aha, Ahem, Alright, OK!” on RTM2 and ASTRO Ria’s “Hijrah Remaja”. She hopes to make a difference in the world, because no matter how small, it counts. Visit her channel.
THE EDUCATION CHANNEL: ANNETTE PRETIBA SINGH
Annette loves the drums, and believes that her life has been designed for something bigger than what she has now. When the music is too loud, it’s either you’ve got excess speakers built within you, or you’re just too old. She loves the French language and would like you to ask her what troisnyxetienne means. Pardon our French, and visit her channel.
THE PEOPLE CHANNEL: CHIN PEI LING
Pei Ling lives in Kajang, but never ate nor craved for its famous satay. An English Studies student in a local university, she is a living paradox - in that she is a talkative introvert. She will watch any films except chick flicks or comedies distastefully done. She looks forward to having her hands in various fields in the future, ranging from event management, journalism to copywriting, production and NGOs. Visit her channel.
THE OPINIONS CHANNEL: MICHAEL VAGHT
Michael Vaght is an aspiring writer and full-time student. In his free time, he enjoys writing and reading, and when he’s occupied he’s either reading or writing. To unwind, he fancies some Chopin or Debussy, or a cold Heineken with a good game on the idiot box. Visit his channel.
WEB DEVELOPMENT
ARZUMY MD YUSOF
Arzumy has been hacking around since he first learned to use the computer. A Jack-of-all-trades by nature, the winner of the National Hacking Competition 2005 codes in any computerspeak, and is currently addicted to Ruby on Rails. He leads a group of freelancers in JomCode and is set toward making freelancing as a professional career of choice. When he’s not writing code, he writes poetry on Gelanggang Puisi. Passionate about reading, he’s working on JomRead project for book lovers. Loves grilling barbecue (so don’t forget to invite him over when you have a BBQ party). If something goes wrong in YouthEcho, you know who to blame. =p
